Cotton, silk, unspun silk, photo transfers. Hand stitched and quilted.
The Mourning Quilt for the Lost and Disappearing Insects of Canada uses unspun silk as the batting. The silk organza has been painted with a single brush stroke to suggest something which was once there but which has now vanished. I used black and white only, no colour, to reference the fact that thousands of insect species are becoming extinct before we even know they exist.
