Mourning Quilt for the Lost & Disappearing Habitat of Canada

5' x 7'.

Hand painted and printed cotton and silk organza, garbage, photo transfers. Hand stitched and quilted.

The Mourning Quilt for the Lost and Disappearing Habitat of Canada uses household garbage as the batting. The horizontal rows represent different bio-regions of Canada; the arctic, the taiga shield, the boreal forest, the cordillera, the prairies, and the coast. The main reason for the loss of species is habitat-loss. And we are the cause of that. Cities encroach ever further upon the wilderness and people leave their, often harmful, garbage everywhere.
